Description
The Alhambra is not limited to the Nasrid Palaces. The Generalife and the Alcazaba are two areas with their own identity that allow a complete reading of the palatine complex without the capacity and schedule limitations imposed by access to the palaces. This visit option is designed for those who prefer to tour the monument at their own pace, with a multilingual audio guide as their only companion.
The Generalife was the retreat palace of the Nasrid sultans, a space of gardens, irrigation channels and Mediterranean vegetation built on the slope of Cerro del Sol with direct views of the palatine city. Its water systems, heirs to Andalusian hydraulic engineering, still work today with the same logic as seven centuries ago. The Alcazaba is the oldest part of the complex, a 13th-century military fortress from whose Torre de la Vela Granada, the vega and Sierra Nevada can be overlooked in a single panoramic view. The outdoor areas of the site complete the route with the walls, monumental gates and walks that structure the palatine city. The audio guide is available in Spanish, English, French, German and Italian.
